Thomas H. Hovious. Son of John Harding HOVIOUS and Eliza LITTEN. Born in Indiana, abt Aug 1825. Married, on 18 Sep. 1849, in Livingston Co., Kentucky, Nancy Lavinia PHILLIPS, a daughter of William Phillips and Judith Ramage. Thomas H. Hovious was a shipwright by profession, and in 1850 lived in Paducah, KY. According to a letter written by his sister Nancy, Thomas drowned in 1871 when his boat sank. Children:
It is interesting to note that Thomas and those around him show the extent to which early Hovious' kept close ties. Thomas' father John left Adair County, KY in 1821, when his little half-brother James was only 6. Yet many years later, Thomas and James ended up living in the same place in northern KY - far away from both their birthplaces - and marrying sisters. Thomas and James Hovious also appear together in court records of 1851 pertaining to the settlement of their father-in-law's estate in Livingston County. This illustrates the way that the families had kept in touch in the 1830s and 1840s.
Note: There are probably other children from this marriage.
This information was developed from my own research, save the 1851 records pertaining to Thomas and James, contributed by John R. Hovious Jr and Jim Hovious of TN.
