More about Emma Hovious Shields; reminiscences of Adele (Steadham) Guthrie, from an E-Mail dated Jan 5, 1995: "...lived with grandmother Shields for at least a couple of years before we moved to Tacoma, in the building that had been both home and General Store before my Grandfather died. Grandmother Shields died about a year after we moved to Tacoma, WA. She stayed in Texas when we moved as she had several daughters still in that area. She died of a blood clot in her leg which was the end result of an accident she had as a young woman. A wagon ran over her leg and crushed it so she always walked with a cane when I knew her. I recall, too, that she had a little dachshund named Sausage who used to sleep on her feet, which she liked because it kept them warm."
